EXERGY TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS
EXERGY TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS
Geothermal
EXERGY develops, designs and manufactures the most efficient Organic Rankine Cycle binary power plants for geothermal sources lower than 200°C. It represents the most important market for EXERGY.
Based on Radial Outflow Turbine technology, EXERGY offers the following advantages:
- Superior efficiency
- Better exploitation of high enthalpy resources and suitable for low temperature (as low as 90°)
- Very cost effective in multiple pressure plant
- Less maintenance
- Extreme flexibility for changing geothermal fluid conditions (flow, temperatures and constituents due to a higher number of stages)
- Projects from 1 MW – 50 MW in size
Heat recovery from industrial processes and power stations
Heat recovery is an area ideally suited to the EXERGY engine, that gives better efficiency for lower temperatures applications and eliminates the requirement for water for treatment and make up. This solution is ideal for companies facing the increasing cost of energy supply and are looking for ways to improve their energy efficiency as well as reduce their impact on the environment. Main target clients are: cement plants, steel mills, glass factories. The main advantages are:
- No water treatment plant or make up water
- Automated operation
- Competitive capital costs, leading to fast payback
- High efficiency at a variety of operating temperatures and loads
- Fast start up and shut down
- Flexible placement, away from the heat source if required
- In industrial process heat recovery, it reduces plant energy consumption and carbon footprint
Biomass
In small biomass plants characterized by reduced capacity and high temperatures, the ORC is an ideal choice due to his high efficiency, availability and ability to follow load dependent on fuel supply. In addition, the elimination of the steam turbine for traditional biomass solutions brings with a number of maintenance and operational benefits. The main advantages are:
- High power and efficiency to capital cost ratio
- High reliability thanks to proven technology
- Flexibility in biomass feed quality
- Small modular, lightweight plants for easy installation
- Few civil works required
- The absence of a steam turbine simplifies operations and reduces maintenance
- No water consumption High reliability thanks to proven technology
Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)
The Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is suitable for converting the thermal energy collected by solar panels into electricity through a thermodynamic cycle with a high level of efficiency. Using ORC in a solar thermal application is a cost efficient solution for clients. This solution has many advantages including:
- Higher flexibility than traditional steam cycles
- Ability to produce electricity from a lower temperature heat source
- Possibility to build a small installation (<1MWe) with the option to scale up in the future
- Lower set up costs for the ORC and solar panels
- Simple operation and maintenance, as with all ORC units
- Remote control of the ORC unit
- A straight forward authorization and permission process
