Founded in 1950 to design and manufacture High Power Converters, FRIEM continued to develop its know-how in energy conversion for Industrial, Light and Heavy Electric Mobility, Renewable Energies, Energy Storage and Management applications.
FRIEM is a reference for the electric energy conversion and has been a preferred technological partner in several pioneeringmarkets, sustaining its customer’s operations and results.
In 1956 FRIEM produced and installed its first 50kA Rectifier Unit for application in Chlor-Alkali industry. At the absolute forefront in technology, in the early 60’s FRIEM was able to manufacture units rated up to 110kA and to design the first high current Thyristor Rectfier. Service continuity required by the Electrochemical Industry oriented FRIEM’s design towards absolute reliability and availability: quality, safety, latest international standards have always been the base for the design and development of our Equipment.
This experience and know-how were applied in the early 70’s when FRIEM started the production of Rectifier Units for heavy electric traction application. With the support of its Partners, FRIEM provides complete Substations Systems with all the main equipment and services.
In 1984 FRIEM was able to design and start-up its first Power Supply for a PolySilicon CVD Reactor. Nowadays FRIEM has hundreds of units in service all over the World supplying all the different types of CVD Reactors supporting the PolySilicon production Industry supplying the Solar Photovoltaic market.
In 2009 FRIEM started the production of the RECon Line, a complete line of Inverters for the Renewable Energies, becoming one of the main manufacturer in Italy and in the World.
To support the growing requirements of Energy Storage and Energy Management, FRIEM developed the HYCon Line, Bi-directional Inverters and DC/DC Converters integrating different energy sources with batteries (fitting different technologies) and the relevant Control System. The first Hybrid Systems started operation in 2017 and today FRIEM has already references in Mini-Grid, Recharging Stations and Grid Ancillary Services.
In order to serve our customers with a wider range of products and solutions, FRIEM has started partnerships and investments with expert Electrotechnical Companies. This strategy gives FRIEM an even stronger Local presence, with offices, workshops and representatives in more than 20 Countries all over the World.

It is a long history of passion, inventiveness and capabilities started in 1950 by Dr. Angelo Pagliai, continuing today with the third generation of the original holding family supported by a selected team of expert and enthusiast managers, engineers, technicians and workers.
The logo has been especially designed to symbolize not only our name but also our business mission and where we come from. Our brand style represents our real identity based on the acronym of five Italian words which stand for rectifiers and electrical plants factory from Milan: Fabbrica Raddrizzatori Impianti Elettrici Milanese.
Nowadays, as well as being a Group with a Worldwide footprint, we maintain our headquarters in Milan, the main technological centre in Europe for Energy Conversion.

FRIEM, with its long experience in High Power Converter Plants, designs and produces its equipment according to the International Standards and Customers’ requirements and specifications. The complete Power Conversion Systems supplied include MV Switchgears, Special Transformers, Interphase and Smoothing Reactors, High Current DC Switches, Power Factor Improvement and Harmonic Filter Systems and DCS Systems.
Today FRIEM’s Converters can be based on IGBT, Thyristor or Diode technologies. Thanks to the need of continuous improvement together with a huge technical knowledge of the converters, FRIEM designs products with the highest level of reliability and latest technology. This grants our customer to have always the most technical updated equipment still maintaining long life operation and reduced maintenance. Efficiency and Power Quality can be maximised with the use of the best solution for our customer’s needs.
The last generation of our Digital Regulation (DRP type) is one of the examples of FRIEM’s technical capabilities in the most recent technologies mixed with the huge experience in Power Converters for Electrochemical Plants.
High flexibility and quick response, among FRIEM’s major strengths, are achieved by continuously training the personnel on the use of the most updated designing and programming tools. Today FRIEM is a Group of Companies specialised in Electrotechnical Equipment, capable to provide the best solutions in Industrial, Energy Storage, Energy Management, Energy Distribution and Electric Mobility applications.
In accordance with the Strategic Plan developed at the beginning of 2018, mainly targeting a strong acceleration in the fields of energy and sustainable mobility, FRIEM has acquired the majority of Yess.energy S.r.l., an innovative startup manufacturing and selling highly technological solutions for the Electric Vehicles recharging. This investment is a decisive step in the market of E-mobility, Energy Storage and IoT (Internet of Things) that will be applied to the recharging sector of electric vehicles. Yess.energy is part of the worldwide clean up project that is committed to reduce pollution and our planet’s overheating.
With the aim to increase the company’s focus towards its customers, at the end of 2017 FRIEM has opened a branch in Indonesia in order to provide a closer sale and after sale support in all the far east area. The new branch will be able to develop all the activities of FRIEM Group for all the products and applications.
In 2012 FRIEM started to broaden its own production founding FRIEM Conversores Ltd based in San Paolo (Brazil) and then, in 2014, FRIEM South Africa based in Cape Town with the aim of supporting the growing markets in these Areas. As a result, customers can rely on the quality and performance of FRIEM’s products, with the advantage of a local production and after-sales assistance.
In 2009 FRIEM acquired an important participation in AKTIF Elektroteknik (former SETAS – Electrical and Machinery Industry and Trading Inc.), established in 1981 in Ankara, which is a major manufacturer of High Voltage Mobile Substation, Metal Clad and Metal Enclosed Switchgear in Turkey and all Middle East Area.
The strategy of making FRIEM’s local presence stronger also counts nowadays offices and representatives in more than 25 Countries all over the World.
