IE Business School

Lee Newman is a Professor of Behavioral Science at IE University and IE Business School in Madrid. He is currently serving as Dean of IE’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. His expertise is in the area of managerial judgment and decision making. His research and teaching focus on (i) helping professionals understand and regulate behavioral biases that threaten effective decision making, and (ii) how positive psychology can be applied to training more effective leaders. He is also leading IE’s initiatives in Behavioral Leadership and Positive Leadership. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Dr. Newman served as an Engagement Manager in the Chicago office of McKinsey & Company. As a consultant, he worked with corporate clients in the area of operations re-engineering and organizational performance improvement. In this role he developed corporate-wide performance improvement processes and designed and led successful training programs to help line managers analyze and improve bottom line results. His industry experience includes Mining, Industrial Goods, and Consumer Packaged Goods. Following his role as consultant, he founded and served as a senior manager in two technology companies in New York City. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, listening to music from around the world, and traveling.
