In 1997, our co-founders Professor Nitish Thakor, PhD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and his former Masters student, Ananth Natarajan, MD, decided technology developed in the lab shouldn’t just stay in the lab.  After seeing countless research projects fail to bridge the gap between research and commercialization, they founded Infinite Biomedical Technologies, LLC (IBT) to help transform technologies from concepts to products.  IBT originally specialized in translational research across a wide variety of fields.  Eventually, the company was split into three pieces such that each could maintain a sharp focus on an individual clinical area. Vigilant Medical specializes in HIPAA-compliant medical image sharing (such as CT, MRI, and angiograms). Ikona Medical specialized in mobile medical applications, particularly in gastroenterology.

astly, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge those who helped us get where we are today.  In the past decade, visionary funding from DARPA, NSF, and NIH opened the potential that advanced technology could restore a significant amount of function to upper-extremity amputees. We have been fortunate to leverage some of these funding opportunities to develop and launch some of the very technologies you see on our website.  Through this funding we’ve avoided taking external equity or debt financing and are debt-free. This model allows us to remain mission-driven in an industry where the need is tremendous but the market size is small.

We’ve come a long way in the last few years and we have big plans for the future.  Check our website often or sign up for our newsletter to keep up to date on our latest advancements.
