Windfarms
Experience in the design and installation of high voltage electrical infrastructure has placed Powersystems in a position ideally suited to carryout wind farm electrical balance of plant contracts. Since our first wind farm installation at Goonhilly downs in 1992 we have been actively involved with wind farm projects ranging from single turbines to 60 turbine sites. Powersystems engineers are experienced in the design, specification installation and commissioning of wind farm switchgear, transformers, cable infrastructure, earth systems, SCADA cabling enabling the complete installation to be carried out. In addition to the on site electrical balance of plant works Powersystems can provide grid connections to wind farm sites and have successfully done so.
Solar Energy
With the governments tariff incentives in place to make Solar energy an attractive renewable energy source within the UK. Powersystems have been assisting developers and solar manufacturers in connecting their Solar farms to the grid and providing the necessary onsite electrical infrastructure.
As a Lloyds accredited independent connections provider Powersystems have provided grid connections to numerous Solar farms. In each case the complete electrical connection has been handled from the point of connection on the DNOs network to the customers metering circuit breaker.
The typical electrical components of a grid connection to a solar farm would comprise of the following.
- Grid Connection Non-contestable works by DNO
- Contestable works
- Grid connection design
- Lay cable to point of connection
- Install substation metering circuit breaker
- Install substation earthing
- Test and commission
Within the Solar farm Powersystems are able to provide the electrical infrastructure to connect the solar inverters to the metering point. The on site electrical infrastructure installed by power systems would typically be as follows.
- Main intake substation
- High voltage cables between main intake substation and collector substations
- Collector substations
- High voltage switchgear
- Step up transformer
- Cabling to inverters
- Substation enclosure
- Site earthing
- Testing and commissioning
- G59 protection and control
Powersystems have a proven track record in delivering grid connections and electrical infrastructure for solar farms within customer timescales and to beat tariff changes.
Anaerobic Digestion
Powersystems have been at the forefront of working with both AD technology providers and the farming community in connecting AD plants to the electricity network.
As a Lloyds accredited independent connections provider Powersystems are able to carry out the contestable grid connection work required. To date Powersystems have connected food waste, dairy and pigs farms to the grid at a number of sites in Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Suffolk and Gloucestershire.
To provide the grid connections to these sites Powersystems have carried out the complete electrical connection to each site from the point of connection on the DNOs network to the customers electricity import/export circuit breaker and meter.
The typical electrical components of an 11kV grid connection to a small scale AD plant would comprise of the following.
- Grid Connection Non-contestable works by DNO
- Contestable works
- Grid connection design
- Lay cable to point of connection
- Install substation metering circuit breaker
- Install GRP enclosure to house substation equipment
- Install substation earthing
- Test and commission
In addition Powersystems have and are able to Design, supply and install the required step up transformer and LV distribution to integrate the existing site loads with the new AD generation.
