Our battery is the world’s smallest and most scalable, commercially available, zinc-bromine flow battery. We are proud to produce one of the most environmentally friendly energy storage solutions in the world, our batteries are fully recyclable and manufactured from widely available, low-toxicity materials. Our energy storage technology is scalable, from tens of kilowatt hours to hundreds of megawatt hours to suit your energy storage needs. The batteries are ideally suited for extreme conditions and can operate without additional cooling or heating and with no degradation from 10 degrees Celsius to 45 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit to 113 degrees Fahrenheit).

Redflow proudly developed our technology in Australia, and we have the capability to deliver it globally. Our deployments are located throughout the world, so we can meet your energy storage needs. Redflow is dedicated to a sustainable, carbon-free future, and we are proud that our flow battery technology will help to build the energy storage systems of today, as well as tomorrow.

Redflow was founded in 2005 when brothers Chris and Alex Winter identified an opportunity in re-dox flow battery technology. During the next few years, they developed the technology and delivered a prototype.

Redflow has grown since then, evolving from an R&D company to a globally focussed leader in safe, clean and sustainable energy storage technology.

Energy storage has come a long way during the past 10 years, with flow battery solutions now recognised as having an essential role to play in the global move to net zero emissions.

We are proud to be one of the world’s longest running flow battery energy storage companies, with decades of design and operational experience that equips us with the knowhow to continue growing and meet the world’s future energy storage needs.

Our vision, mission and values explain what we stand for. Founded on authenticity and ambition, they shape our culture and guide our work every day. They help ensure we work well together, operate safely, minimise impacts on the environment and create value for our shareholders.

Redflow’s zinc-bromine flow batteries have many unique features and are ideally suited to time-shifting energy on a daily, full-cycle basis, as well as providing emergency power supplies in a wide range of climates.Other key benefits include:
Scalable
  • 10 kWh modular design – scalable to multi-MWh systems
  • Core design allows for redundancy. Expand as needs increase
  • Hibernation mode allows for extended preservation of stored energy for indefinite periods
  • Suits medium to longer duration storage applications
Environmentally friendly
  • Battery is made from HDPE plastic which is commonly recycled into plastic bottles
  • Electronics – follows standard pathway for electronics recycling
  • Electrolyte – R&D program to verify potential to reuse/partial reuse
  • Minerals sourced from non-conflict areas
  • No CO2 emitted from operation
Operational flexibility
  • Up to 12 hours discharge and potential to extend with hibernation mode
  • Less than 1 second start up response time
  • Batteries can be left 100 per cent charged indefinitely
  • System can be ‘parked’ at any state of charge, with no impact on performance
Safe
  • No risk of thermal runaway - non-flammable materials, verified to UL9540A
  • Excellent tolerance for high ambient temperatures without external cooling
  • Bromine-based electrolyte is non-flammable, not susceptible to mechanical damage and does not present as a risk of explosion
  • Remote monitoring and diagnostics plus self-protection features
Cost
  • Deep daily discharge and sustained energy output
  • Long-life, multi-cycle design
  • Ability to value stack – frequency control and energy shifting
Performance
  • Unique system retains full capacity over time
  • Systems can be specified to operate across a wide range of ambient temperatures -15-50°C (5°F to 122°F) with no electrochemical degradation
  • No active cooling required when operated at temperatures between 10 to 45 degrees Celsius (50 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit)
Certification
  • CE
  • Australian researched and designed
  • Currently obtaining UL safety certification for: UL 1973 “Standard for Safety, for Stationary Applications” and UL 9540A “Standard for Safety for Thermal Runaway”
