Vision What we believe

Canada is poised for global leadership in sustainable and renewable resources. What it takes is collaboration to align policy and industry.

Purpose Why we exist

As individual businesses, we are doing good for the economy, the environment, and the people at the same time. We combine our business experience and expertise to strengthen Canada’s economy and environment: a nation stronger, freer, richer, and cleaner than ever.

AdvantageHow we impact

Canada’s world-class renewable fuels industry was built from the ground up by entrepreneurs. Today, it continues to flourish under industry leaders who understand that businesses can do good for both the economy and the environment. It’s not either or. Our coalition is led by industry titans with thriving businesses and a long history of innovation and adaptiveness. We provide government stakeholders and policymakers the necessary expertise and foresight, strategies and capabilities to seize opportunities for sustainable growth.

Governance How we get results

  • Think big, start small, move fast
  • Don’t over-plan and under-act
  • Effectiveness in practice beats rightness in theory
  • Good and early outperforms perfect but late
  • Define key results, set timeline, measure progress
  • True results trump vanity metrics

1984

Renewable Industries Canada was established by entrepreneurs who found opportunities where others saw wastes. Our story began with a group of savvy farmers seeking new markets for surplus crops. The group grew into the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association (CRFA), the first national trade association representing Canada’s biofuels producers, blenders, and distributors. It was just the beginning.

2006

CRFA launched a high-profile campaign featuring Corn Cob Bob that captured the hearts of Canadians, ultimately resulted in the federal mandates for biofuels in Canada. CRFA members continued building a profitable industry and helped establish strong policy mandates for renewable fuels blending across Canada.

2016

With members continuously innovating technology to diversify clean and renewable products beyond biofuels, CRFA re-branded as Renewable Industries Canada (RICanada) to reflect the expanded capabilities and opportunities.

2018

The organization saw another opportunity to advance Canadian renewables by transforming into an agile coalition model. Our members are local entrepreneurs, who have been at the forefront of driving change and impact for Canada’s economy and environment. We are here to partner with decision-makers to make meaningful policy choices: to foster our economy, to protect our environment, and to propel our nation to a leadership position on the world stage in sustainability.
