About Us
Every corporate culture is unique. We strive for more than unique by fostering beliefs and actions that are true to and respectful of our many stakeholders.
At TransAlta, that means we:
Being a good neighbour means investing in and making a commitment to the communities in which we operate. Beside our funding of significant local initiatives, our employees also donate thousands of hours of their own time to countless community programs.
Success over the long haul requires that business operations and growth take the environment, social concerns, and the economics of doing business into account. We work hard to do all three well and we report on our efforts annually.
Integrating safety into our daily culture is a part of the job at TransAlta. Through incentive-based programs and annual safety awards, we have committed to making safety a priority in all that we do.
Our operations have an impact on many groups with diverse interests – from the general public to regulators, nearby landowners, Aboriginals, governments, employees, investors, and many more. We listen, carefully consider our stakeholder needs, and are responsive to issues and concerns. Read more about our consultation process.
Our Future
We compete in a capital intensive, commodity-based industry that has long business cycles. It's a business where power plants routinely run for 50 years or more. That means when we plan, we're planning years, even decades into the future. It's no wonder that, in 1997, we were one of the first companies in Canada to make significant investments in wind power.
Here's what we have planned for the years ahead:
- Dedicate the majority of our planned growth capacity to renewable power sources like wind, hydro and geothermal
- Maintain a singular focus on generation to satisfy the growing demand for clean, reliable and competitively priced electricity
- Build on a century of experience
With 100 years of history under our belt, we have the experience and the resources to ensure our plans are realized.
