XEMC Darwind BV, established in 2009, is a Dutch supplier of direct drive wind turbines in the multi-megawatt range. Darwind operates from its premises in Hilversum, The Netherlands. For both, the onshore and offshore markets, we have platforms available. Darwind is thus enabled to answer the specific demands of a rapidly expanding and globally developing market. We have the philosophy of bringing high quality products into this market.

For both, the onshore and offshore markets, we have platforms available. All of them are based on the permanent magnet, direct drive technology:
Onshore solutions

As a company, Darwind was started by taking a fresh approach to the offshore wind energy market. Not only learning lessons from earlier developments in the sector but also incorporating specific industrial methodologies from other industries. With the lessons learned from earlier offshore developments and projects, Darwind started bringing top quality to the onshore market as well. This is in order to deliver a competitive commercial offer and product range including very competitive O&M offers during the lifetime of the product, resulting in a very attractive cost of energy.

MissionBe an engineering entity and European representative for parent company XEMC Windpower Co. Ltd. by:
- Build out an onshore market position, based on the developed and certified offshore turbine XD115-5MW, wind class 1, and the earlier developed 2 MW XE series;
- Continue developing product improvements to ensure and improve a cost effective solution (Capex and Opex) for our customers;
- Continue expanding the product platform for other wind climates (II and III) resulting in products with larger rotor diameters;
- Optimize products for different hub heights, enabling an optimal solution for different projects;
- Continue the offshore turbine developments taking into account the demand for acceptable costs of energy for the offshore wind power plants.
History
The direct drive permanent magnet generator technology was started by Zyphyros B.V., which started as a subsidiary of Lagerwey Windturbines B.V.
The first turbine of this type, the 2 MW Z72 turbine prototype, has been in operation for a number of years in the Netherlands.
XEMC Windpower acquired the rights to manufacture and sell the Zephyros technology all over the world. The Z72 was rebranded, improved and today more than 3,000 onshore XE-series Direct Drive wind turbines have been delivered by XEMC Windpower.
