Hydro 2011
A stunning city in the heart of central Europe, the Czech capital city of Prague will provide the perfect setting for HYDRO 2011. Located on the Vltava river, and bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland, Prague is easily accessible from all parts of the world. Since 1992, the extensive historical centre has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As well as offering a wealth of cultural attractions, it is renowned as a centre for international congresses, having hosted summits of NATO, the EU, the IMF, the World Bank and the International Olympic Committee. Our HYDRO 2011 Conference and Exhibition will again bring together high level delegations from all countries of the world with active hydropower and water resources development programmes underway, to discuss priorities, achievements and challenges. A call for papers will be issued shortly, and information will be available soon in Hydropower & Dams and on our website.

An annual series of insertions in the H&D Inte...
An annual series of insertions in the H&D International Business Directory (IBD) is a lowcost way of ensuring that details of your company and its scope of services are constantly in the minds of H&D readers in 183 countries. It is an efficient medium, with details presented in a clear, concise and attractive format.
Hydropower & Dams offers a classified section which is printed throughout in full colour. This gives all companies the opportunity to include logos in their corporate colour, and greatly enhances the impact of each entry.
The categories of organizations in the IBD are:
- Bearings, Coolers, Couplings, Cylinders, Filters and Seals
- Civil Contractors / Construction Equipment
- Design Engineers / Developers / Consultants
- Electromechanical Services and Suppliers
- Hydromechanical Services and Suppliers
- Instrumentation Services and Suppliers
- Laboratories
- Materials Specialists
- Small Hydro Specialists
- Underwater Services
Conference Mission
With nearly 2 billion people in the world still lacking a reliable electricity supply, and about 70 per cent of the world’s hydro potential remaining to be exploited, there is no doubt about the need for more carefully planned hydro schemes to be implemented, without delay.
In many of the industrialized nations, the uprating of existing hydro plants can offer a clean and cost-effective solution for bringing new capacity on line to meet increasing demand.
- Aqua~Media International will continue to build on its extensive experience of bringing together international experts from all parts of the world to discuss practical, topical and challenging aspects of present and future hydro development.
- Great emphasis is placed each year on facilitating the active participation of those from the less developed countries, where the greatest hydro potential remains, and there is the greatest need to develop it.
- In Prague, financiers from the major IFIs, leading consultants, high level representatives of power and water authorities, decision makers from private and public developers, major contractors and suppliers will review progress, challenges, research needs, and above all how to help nations with hydro potential to meet their development goals.
- Project finance, environmental and social aspects, adaptation to climate change, increasing dam and powerplant safety and efficiency, and ways to maximize and quantify the multiple advantages of hydropower will all be high on the agenda.
- Technical sessions will be complemented by workshops, panel discussions, and a number of side events.
Policy-makers, developers, financiers, and hydro p...
Policy-makers, developers, financiers, and hydro practitioners in all parts of the world are joining forces today to maximize the many inherent benefits of multipurpose hydropower projects. Pumped-storage schemes are playing an increasingly important role, particularly in countries where intermittent renewable energy systems are being developed. Power trading is accelerating socio-economic development in many hydro-rich countries, and innovative small hydro schemes are providing practical solutions for rural electrification.

Conference Technical Tours
At least two technical tours are planned to follow HYDRO 2011.The national power company ˘CEZ has a portfolio of 37 hydroelectric plants, ranging from mini hydro schemes of less than 1 MW, to the largest pumped-storage schemes such as Dalesice (450 MW) and Dlouhé Stráne (650 MW).
The technical tours will give the opportunity for delegates to learn about recently constructed schemes, refurbishment projects, the role played by renewable energy in the Czech grid and also Czech expertise in flood management and environmental protection.
