Energy Efficient Power Unit & Hydraulic Design
The SC Shear power unit develops 30% more flow than the competition with equivalent horse power saving energy. The innovative hydraulic system uses exhaust fluid from the cylinders to retract the charge box simultaneously. This method reduces opening time by 50% and greater reduces energy consumption.
The SC Shear hydraulic system was designed with high-strength piping with precision CNC bends and high integrity mechanical joints virtually eliminates welded joints and conventional O rings.

Harris utilizes an energy efficient, on-demand, control system which varies the flow at each stage of the shearing cycle using only what it needs. The control systems is specifically designed to absorb hydraulic pressure spikes and shock when shearing through material.
The Harris SC Shear implements a state-of-the-art intelligent hydraulic control system that varies motor speeds to conserve energy. The system is set to idle at 800rpm vs. 1750rpm and the responsive system drops the motors completely out (0rpm) during material waiting periods. The SC Shear’s “instant on” approach quickly returns the motors to full working capacity within 1 second. The design is to only consume energy when needed.

Shear Frame
The SC Shear features very robust interlocking plate design for enhanced rigidity, strength, ease of maintenance and operation. The welded interlocking plate-to-plate joints improve load resistance.
Innovative Crosshead and Clamp
The SC Shear has a innovative crosshead and chute interface to guide the movement of sheared scrap. The chute is mechanically driven by motion of crosshead.
The double trapezoidal design provides improved distribution of loads throughout the shear frame.
Redesigned Piping
The SC Shear’s alloy steel hydraulic piping features large diameter, heavy-walled mechanical pipe specifically rated for high flows at high pressure. The system is designed to be weld-free to reduce weak points in the system.

Wear Liners
Wear liner plates in the crosshead and clamp throat are replaceable without removing the crosshead and clamp from the shear.
Easy Resurfacing
The SC Shear features replaceable wear liners in the shear frame and charge box. Wear liner replacement can renew the machine and increase overall machine life.

CROSSHEAD AND CLAMP
- Double trapezoidal design provides improved distribution of loads throughout shear frame.
- Crosshead bends material prior to shearing in order to reduce required shear load.
- Composite self-lubricating bearing pads guide Crosshead and Clamp throughout range of motion.
- Wear Liner plates in Crosshead and Clamp throat are replaceable without removing Crosshead or Clamp from shear.
- Clamp is designed to reduce jamming by limiting scrap migration into the guides.
