Mechanical Vapour Recompression Evaporators
MVR or mechanical vapour recompression evaporators have been available in the marketplace for some time. The operating principle is based on re-use of the latent heat of evaporation. Water vapour is compressed to create a temperature differential across a heat transfer surface. TAF Industrial Consulting has invented a new method for fabricating inexpensive heat exchangers for MVR type applications, and for recovery of energy from waste steam. The design changes the economics of MVR evaporation: Capital and variable costs are reduced substantially. Apparatus is also simplified. A special type of compressor that is ideal for the chosen operating conditions has been developed and is used in the TAF evaporators. MVR type evaporators produce a condensate and a concentrate.

It is also possible to construct 'hybrid' evaporators by combining direct hot gas to liquid heat transfer system with MVR steam to gas heat exchangers. Heat transfer area scaling can be eliminated by this method.
If necessary, scaling can be controlled by automatic recirculation of chemical solutions. Small internal volume is ideal for this purpose.
