Ganz - Francis Turbine
From Hydro Turbines
The turbines are characterized by a simple, robust design that ensures reliable operation with minimal maintenance. The welded steel-structured spiral housing and the stay ring form a compact unit with the suction-pressure connections and the support legs, and the lifting tabs. This design provides a circular symmetrical flow to the impeller.

General information
- For medium powers, turbines applied for medium fall.
- Fall limit: 250 m.
- Power: 0,1–50 MW.
- Shaft arrangement: horizontal, vertical.
- Housing design: welded or cast spiral housing, concrete water shaft.
- To achieve the best efficiency, we use the research results of several small sample turbines.
Guide vane system
Adjustable guide vane ring for changing the water amount. The stainless steel guide vanes are powered by carbon steel levers with safety sliding couplings. The guide vanes rotate in maintenance-free taps, which are in the turbine covers with stainless steel protection.
Impeller
Impeller: cast, closed, radial. The dynamically balanced impeller is made of one-piece stainless steel.
Impeller-shaft connection: no shaft, the impeller at the shaft end of the generator, complete turbine, the shaft is equipped with a thrust and guide bearing, clutch connection to the generator.
Sealing
It is possible to use a conventional soft or mechanical stuffing box. In both cases, the shaft is equipped with a stainless steel shaft protective sleeve in the operating area.
Pressure tube shut-off
In case of low-fall hydropower plants (less than 180 m) the main shut-off is solved by hydraulic opening butterfly lock mounted on the pressure tube. In case of higher falls, this function is realized by a double-acting cylindrical ball valve.
Built-in instruments and controls
- Electronic rotation speed control.
- Guide vane moving by hydraulic power supply.
- Operation of pipe closures.
- Overspeed and water-shock protection.
