Strahl - Model FR Series - Energy Saving Grain Dryers
From Grain Dryers
The most impressive line, designed for those who need to dry large volumes. In the continuous flow dryers with heat recovery of the FR series, the special air circuit has been designed to reduce fuel consumption and a further reduction of emissions, with an important economic advantage for those who own it and a considerable benefit for the environment.

Construction features of the FR Series
- The Strahl energy saving grain dryers are made of galvanised sheet metal panels that make them exceptionally robust.
- They have an upper hopper with braided reinforcement pipes and Aluzinc coating, which is the same material used for the air distribution ducts. The whole machine is built with panels having flaps on the outside and with a final drip tray, to avoid the dangerous build-up of dust inside the chamber.
- The extractors have a special design and a high ratio between the diameter of the impeller and that of the fan which allows noise to be reduced. Noise reduction is also guaranteed by the layer of mineral wool covering the internal sides of the extractors.
- The FR Series is manufactured with two versions: one with linear burners, the other with traditional burners.
- The discharge device allows large quantities of product to descend in a very short time, avoids pollution phenomena when passing from one cereal to another, and excludes the risk of jamming even in the presence of foreign bodies. Continuous flow grain dryers with heat recovery have been designed so as to make the machine maintenance and cleaning operations easier.
Operation: energy saving grain dryers
- In the FR Series machines the use of unsaturated air allows considerable energy saving.
- The product descends by gravity through a series of staggered ducts; these cause the product to fall in a zigzag movement and to be continuously mixed together, ensuring that it descends evenly. The width of the final cooling area can be adjusted, and the amount of air can be dosed with special dampers.
- The air movement is ensured by fans in the upper part of the suction chamber, which expel the saturated air into the atmosphere, and by fans in the lower part; in the latter area, the air coming from the final drying phase is warm and not completely saturated, while the air coming from the cooling area contains the heat removed from the product. The fans drive the air in the lower part towards the opposite part of the column, where it is mixed together with the air coming from the burner and is used once again in the drying process. The exchange system between the air and the product is a mixed flow system and guarantees that all the grain is crossed by both a concurrent and counter-current air flow while it descends.
- This type of drying process guarantees a further reduction of the dust because only part of the air required for drying is expelled outside.
How FR dryers contain emissions
- Strahl cares for environmental sustainability and all our machines are built with measures aimed at reducing emissions into the atmosphere.
- Dust is emitted when the dryer is operating due to the product crossing the air flow which removes the lighter parts.
- Strahl has in fact implemented special important measures to reduce both product handling and air speed while the product is in circulation. Among these, an extraction device that allows large quantities of the product to be discharged in a very short time. Only during extraction, a significant quantity of dust is emitted; to further reduce it, the air flow is interrupted during the movement of the product.
- In the case of continuous flow dryers with heat recovery, the special air circuit has been designed to reduce fuel consumption and a further reduction of emissions. The system in fact allows to obtain a double result: only part of the air required for drying is emitted and the air that contains the highest level of dust is not expelled.
