Model T-300 - In Ground Trench Burners
From T-Series - In Ground Trench Burners
Air Burners' T-Series trailer mounted air curtain incineration systems have been designed and engineered to provide over-the-road transportability, offering the operator the flexibility of reducing land clearing or clean construction waste on-site as opposed to hauling the waste to a fixed processing or dumping location or chipping it at high cost and possibly hauling it as well.

We presently manufacture as our standard trench burner, the T-300 equipped with a manifold length of 30 feet. It features our unique safety set-back distance from burn pit to trailer unit of 20 feet. See also: Standard Trench Burner Features.
Our traditional trench burner, the T-350 first introduced by Air Burners several decades ago continues to be available in our Custom Equipment section. It is a special order item. The T-400 is no longer offered as of 2016.
The T-300 units are a fully self-contained trailer mounted systems that include a power plant, mechanical drive system, blower fan and fuel tank. The units have manifolds in lengths of 30 feet or 9 meters that deliver the “air curtain” for trench burning. Air Burners produced a large number of its “traditional” T-350 (T-359) trench burner for more than thirty years as standard equipment; it required on-site assembly of the carrier pipe and manifold components. Our standard trench burner is now the patented T-300 machine, but the T-350 is also available as Custom Equipment, albeit it was longer lead times, both as trailer-mounted and skid-mounted units, and we continue to provide, of course, spare parts for this model.
As depicted in the accompanying pictures and drawings, the trailer mounted series of air curtain burners are setup on-site quickly and easily. All components are mounted to the T-300. See a streaming set-up video here).
The trench is constructed using a backhoe, excavator or similar equipment. The earthen trench is built by excavating down into the soil to achieve a trench that is the length of the manifold: 8-10 feet (2.5-3 meters) wide. The trench depth should be equal to the width, but can be more if practical. Trench Burners do not operate well in soil not conducive to digging the pit, as with very sandy or very rocky soil. Additionally, a low water table may prevent the construction of a proper trench. Where these conditions exist, one of our above ground FireBoxes should best be used.
Burning operations can usually run for three days before the ash in the trench will need to be removed. The trench can be re-used as long as the earthen sides of the trench remain reasonably straight. Once they start to deteriorate emissions will begin to increase and throughput will go down; in that case it is best to move on to a new trench.
The principle of the air curtain concept is optimized with this Air Burners design. High velocity air is directed across and downwards at an angle into the pit creating the air curtain on top and a rotational turbulence within the pit itself. The rotational turbulence provides an oxygen enriched environment within the combustion zone which accelerates the combustion process by raising the temperatures within the pit up to approximately 1,800º F (approx. 1,000º C).
The high velocity air curtain traps unburned particulate (PM, smoke or black carbon) until they are completely consumed. The end result is the achievement of nearly 100% combustion with minimal escaped particulate matter (PM) and opacities below 10%.
The volume of material that can be processed per hour is a function of density of the waste material, its moisture content, the employed loading techniques and the time period in which optimum temperatures in the pit can be retained (see the detailed specs for averages). Upon completion of the combustion stage, the waste material will be reduced on the average by 98% leaving only 2% of the original volume as residual ash. System efficiency will be reduced once the residual ash build-up reaches approximately 3 ft (90 cm) in the bottom of the pit. Typically, several days of operation will lead to such a build-up after which the ash will have to be removed or a new bit built.
In most applications the residual ash from wood waste can either be retrieved and sold to nurseries as a soil amendment, or it can be mixed with the soil right at the location, as the material is non-polluting and becomes a generally desirable soil enhancer.
Patented T-300 Trench Burner
Our T-300 trench burners do not have a carrier pipe or manifold to assemble, as does the previous model, the T-350. The manifold and carrier pipe assemblies “extend” from the rear of the trailer.
This patented system design will reduce your set up and tear-down time while providing better control of the air being delivered for the air curtain. It will also maintain the all important 20-foot “set back” from pit to machine to protect your equipment. In addition, we are employing an entirely new air generating system. These and other developments enhance operations, reduce emissions and increase throughput.
Trailer Construction
The trailers are welded steel construction using ¼” thick by six inch C-channel for the main frames and cross members. The frames are completely welded-out not “tack welded” as often seen by other trailer manufacturers. This type of construction gives you the strongest possible foundation to support axles, motors and drive equipment in the tough environment found on most job sites. It also gives you confidence that when you arrive at the job site, so will your trailer.
All of the tube ends are cap-welded for better protection from the elements and a better looking finish. All welds are continuous fillet welds for overall strength. The entire unit receives two coats of primer and three coats of the symbolic 'Air Burners Green' or 'Heavy-Equipment Industrial Yellow' often referred to as 'CAT Yellow' gloss enamel paint for optimum protection.
All of our trailers are tandem axle construction. Tandem axles give you the most security for getting on and off the job sites. Electric brakes are provided on both axles. We supply our trailers with heavy-duty Load Range D, nylon belted tires rated at over 2,500 lbs. (1,100 kg) each. Each axle is attached to a heavy-duty spring package to give you better support over uneven terrain or towing on the highway. The lighting package includes license plate, running and tail lights.
Air Supply
The trailer mounted fan is mechanically driven by a pulley and belt system. We use a dual-belt system with a heavy-duty automatic belt tensioner which is easy to maintain and very reliable. The fan is a custom designed industrial unit built specifically for the Air Burners T-Series machines. It is a high-pressure fan in contrast to the conventional low pressure version, as is still found on less efficient trench burners. The new high pressure fan makes it possible to reduce the engine horsepower required resulting in substantial fuel savings, and it also allows the design of a much smaller carrier pipe and manifold. That, in turn, makes it possible to build a trench burner with retractable manifold assemblies, such as our patented T-300 machines that can be set up by one person in just a few minutes.
The air fan is mounted so as to direct the compressed high velocity air down the carrier pipe to the manifold that re-directs the air over and down into the pit. The manifold is a welded steel construction equipped with patented scuffers that peel off the required amount of air down the manifold so as to maintain a uniform discharge rate along the entire length of the trench. Vanes in the discharge nozzle produce discharge ports with high exit velocities.
Power and Drive Systems
The Power Plant used on the T-300 Air Curtain Systems is a four cylinder Diesel engine. The engine is a direct-injected, naturally aspirated Turbo Charged engine (Perkins 404D.22T or Kubota V-2403-TE). The engine is outfitted with a custom designed instrument and control panel that provides ease of operation and readily visible monitoring. A PTO is mounted to the engine, providing the drive control for the fan's mechanical drive system. The engine and drive gear are protected by a custom manufactured flame retardant fiberglass cowling that is lockable. Dual fuel tanks (45 gallons (170 liters) are mounted on the trailer under the cowling. This provides more than one full day of operating capability before refueling is required.
