Model TCR Series - Total Containment Biogas Contaminant Removal System
From Landfill Gas Dryers / Digester Gas Dryers / Biogas Dryers
Using Subzero Air to Remove Siloxanes and Other Pollutants. Pioneer offers a range of options and solutions for cleaning, compressing & drying energy rich LFG, DG & Bio gases. In addition to cooling, activated carbons and desiccants are effective in separating most contaminants; however, the media regeneration and disposal costs are high. Moreover, it’s difficult to know when to replace the media; and, generally, the system requires shutdown for service, for safety reasons, costing time and money.

In addition, depending on the contaminant, the used media may be hazardous.
Some of the most difficult and harmful contaminants to remove are siloxanes. Activated carbon has shown a limited success in removing it. Most siloxanes condense at -9 0F*. Pioneer's unique approach involves chilling gas down to approximately -100F (-230C) and removing 98-99 % of moisture as well as contaminants that condense or dissolve in moisture.
Pioneer uses its patented technology (**Patent # 6,712,885), i.e. “Alternating Heat Exchanger Gas-flow” to achieve sub-freezing gas temperatures. One Evaporator cools gas while the other is defrosted.
The gas quality provided by a Total Contaminant Removal System, without Activated Carbon/Desiccant Adsorber, is satisfactory for most applications; the activated carbon adsorption can be added to remove remaining traces of contaminants, if required. The activated carbon is very effective in removing excessive amounts Sulfur, H2S and SO2.
Pioneer offers activated carbon as well as desiccant adsorption treatment as an option.
A Pioneer TCR System provides extremely dry gas and removes siloxanes (silicon compounds), sulfur and halide compounds and other difficult to remove contaminants; e.g. up to 98-99 % of Moisture, VOC, H2S and SO2, by chilling gas to sub-zero temperatures, down to -100F/-230C Pressure Dew Point (PDP); because most *SILOXANES condense at -90F. Moreover, removal of moisture, a base for acid formation, minimizes acid formation.
TCR Advanced Technology
“Alternating Heat Exchangers” provide frosting & de-frosting action. To prevent freeze up, gas is cooled in steps. Most of the contaminants either condense, or dissolve, in condensed fluids. If required, adsorption system can be added for additional gas cleaning. Gas quality provided by a TCR, without Activated Carbon/ Desiccant ADSORBER, is satisfactory for most applications. A TCR eliminates, or minimizes, the need of an Adsorber. This is a significant advantage; because adsorption media can be classified as a hazardous material and disposal can become a serious and expensive problem.
Quality Features
- Gas flow thru 304SS (except blower)
- Economizer/ Gas-Gas Heat Exchanger: Cools incoming gas with the outgoing chilled gas
- Gas to Refrigerant Heat Exchanger: In TCR10T and up, cools gas to approximately 350F (2 0C)
- Duplex Gas-Ref. Heat Exchangers: Cool gas down to approximately -100F (-23 0C); one heat exchanger chills gas while the other is de-frosted, and chilled again to cool gas on a continuous basis
- PLC Controls: A B PLC controls system & transmits data
- Cold Coalescing filter: Coalescing filter (0.01 micron) is provided at a cold point for maximum contaminant removal
- Re-heating: Chilled/dry gas flows through gas-gas heat exchanger; it’s reheated to approximately 250F (140C) below the incoming gas temperature
- Multiple Automatic Drains: Improve reliability & reduces energy use
- Single Gas Inlet/ Outlet & Drain Line
- Single electrical connection
