If ARCLEX and SINDANYO are world class materials developed in the UK, REFRAVER can claim to be a world leading electrical insulation material developed in France for the demanding SNCF French TGV train operation.
REFRAVER is specified by some of the World's most prestigious companies, e.g. the French railways SNCF, Belgian railways, the underground systems in Paris, Milan, and Chile. Major switchgear manufacturers use REFRAVER for the most arduous applications. Russian Railways have approved REFRAVER for use in their high performance switches via a major European Switch manufacturer.
REFRAVER is used as transport and power switchgear arc boxes, circuit breakers, snuffer boxes and electrical containment in general.
Field of Applications
Railways
Various Railway companies within the UK and Europe have approved TENMAT L21, L23 and L26 materials for fabricated arc chutes for both trackside and rolling stock.
TENMAT arc chute materials are working in applications up to 11,000 V / 2,000 A AC and 3,000 V / 1,000 A DC. One particular GEC designed arc chute utilises L21 and ARCLEX and is used on the Type 319 Thames Link EMU which is designed to work at 750 V DC (30,000 A breaking load) or 25,000 V AC.
Network Rail have approved L21 for several types of arc chutes used in the power switchgear at track side substations, which provide power for mainline train services in the South East of England. Other arc chutes are also used by Metro & Tramway authorities, SNCF France uses L26 for arc chutes constructed to specification St 273 Cat 1.
In Norway, ARCLEX is used by Oslo Tramways because of its high resistance to electric arcs and very low moisture absorption providing excellent electrical properties in humid atmospheres. It is also used on railway track side and signaling switchgear.
REFRAVER S is specified by some of the world's most prestigious companies, e.g. the French railways SNCF to St 273 Cat 2, Belgian railways, the underground systems in Paris, Milan and Chile. Major switchgear manufacturers use REFRAVER for arduous applications. Russian Railways have now approved REFRAVER for use in their high performance switches via a major European switch manufacturer.
Switchgear
Switchgear
Where high power electrical supplies need to be turned on and off, one of the traditional methods of controlling the electrical arcs is air break switchgear which contains arc chutes. For these devices high temperature resistant materials with good electrical insulation must be used.
For many years asbestos materials were the industry standard for building arc chutes. Legislation has banned the use of products containing asbestos and TENMAT has thus developed a range of asbestos-free materials with outstanding arc resistant properties. SINDANYO, REFRAVER and ARCLEX materials have been specifically developed for these applications and exhibit excellent electrical properties in high power applications.
SINDANYO and REFRAVER are used in railway switchgear throughout Europe and the rest of the world as well as power generation switchgear.
In addition to the railway industry, ARCLEX with its extremely high performance electrical properties, is also widely specified in switchgear and circuit breakers in many power stations throughout the world. In the UK, switchgear manufacturers such as NEI Reyrolle, GEC, Whipp and Bourne, Ottermill, English Electric, Siemens and VA Tech have all been involved in air brake switchgear over the decades and the materials from TENMAT are now widely used where asbestos replacement refurbishment work is needed.
TENMAT materials are the preferred choice for all applications requiring effective circuit breaking technologies, such as trackside DC switchgear, metrosystems and aerospace electrical systems.
