Savalight - Voltage Management and Optimisation Units
Savalight is an intelligent controller for saving power on lighting loads. savalight reduces power used by fluorescent, high bay and discharge type lighting normally by 25-35% with minimal effect on light level. It offers an attractive payback of 12 to 24 months depending on usage and the price of your electric.
Facts
According to Carbon trust figures, commercial and industrial lighting consumes an estimated 20% of all electrical energy generated in the UK. In most organisations lighting accounts for around 20-40% of total electricity costs, so it’s no small overhead. A vast majority of commercial and industrial lighting is a fluorescent, which now can be optimised, thanks to the SavaLight, resulting in substantial savings in running costs and CO2 emissions.

how does it work
The SavaLight is an intelligent controller for saving power on lighting loads. Is can be used on a wide variety of lighting loads such as fluorescent and high intensity discharge (such as sodium). The principle behind the SavaLight operation is that once the lights have striked and have reached their operating temperatures, normal utility supply voltage is not required, so can be reduced. This voltage reduction will generate significant savings in running costs and CO2 emissions, while only marginally reducing light output. The reduction in light output in many cases cannot be noticed buy the human eye and would require a light level meter to measure the difference. By using this technique of voltage control, savings in excess of 25% can be realistically expected and in many cases the savings are in excess of 30%.
smart controls
To ensure all lights are started in the correct manor, the SavaLight is able to detect when additional lights are switched on in the same circuit. The changes in demand will result in the SavaLight switching back to mains voltage for the warm up period and then back into saving mode when ready, ensuring correct light starting conditions.
To ensure a constant light level, the SavaLight will automatically switch between saving modes to ensure light levels are maintained in poor supply voltage conditions. This unique feature enables the SavaLight to be used in areas where stable lighting is paramount such as office blocks, hotels, hospitals, warehouses, supermarkets, schools, and libraries.
light harvesting occupancy sensing
By using optional sensors, the SavaLight can smart enable any lighting loads to maximise savings. The light harvesting option adjusts lighting levels to maintain a constant interior light quality in relation to exterior lighting conditions. There are also optional control terminals, which can be programmed to interface with BMS systems and alarms to give its users a total energy saving solution.
how is it installed
SavaLight is designed for retro-fitting into existing installations, no modifications are required to existing light fittings. SavaLight is simply wired into the electrical circuit between the power distribution board and lighting load. SavaLight may be mounted vertically, horizontally or hung from false ceiling hangers. Just one qualified electrician can complete an installation in approximately 30 minutes. Interruption to lighting is only a matter of minutes.
extended tube life
The graph below is reproduced from the Technological University of Oslo, published by Lysteknikk and is the only known independent source to have investigated “under running” of lamps. SavaLight “under runs” the lamps and in doing so extends the life of the tube by over 30% based on these figures – that’s another 4,000 hours of added Lamp Life to 17,000 hours for triphosphor tube. The light level is always within the tube manufacturers guidelines.
