- Model BG Series - Heat Exchanger for Cooling and Dehumidifying Biogas

0

The BG Series Heat Exchangers are designed for the cooling and dehumidification of biogas streams, particularly those originating from landfills and digesters. This series features a modular design that allows easy modification to fit custom specifications, making it versatile for various applications. Typical uses include aftercooling and heating gas delivered by rotary-lobe and multistage centrifugal blowers in biogas and landfill gas systems for power generation and cogeneration. It has a robust pressure housing design that allows for removable cores from the rear without disassembling the gas line. The heat exchanger housings can accommodate multiple cores and mist eliminators, reducing downstream moisture carryover. With easily adjustable gas connection sizes, the device adapts to different system needs. Featuring a fin-tube core with expanded tubes, the design ensures optimal performance and structural integrity through gap-free connections. Installation considerations address fluid circuit drainage and vibration isolation to prevent work-hardening and failures.

Details

BG Series heat exchangers cool and dehumidify Bio Gas streams, commonly found in landfills and digesters. The modular BG Series design allows a standard design to easily be modified to give a custom fit. Use our interactive online form to get a fast and accurate quote!

Common Applications
Aftercooling, dehumidifying, and heating gas delivered by rotary-lobe and multistage centrifugal blowers used in biogas and landfill gas heating and power generation (cogeneration) systems.

Pressure Housing
Heat exchanger cores are removable through the rear side of the housing without requiring disassembly of the gas line. Pressure tests from a full vacuum to 15 PSIG are available.

Heat exchanger housings can be built to contain multiple heat exchanger cores with separate or shared access panels. Mist eliminators can also be built into a housing to prevent condensed moisture from carrying downstream. The gas connection size and type can easily be changed to match system requirements.

Fin-Tube Core
The fins are rectangular plates with a matrix of die-extruded tube collars. A sheet metal casing provides rigidity to the fin-tube assembly prior to tube expansion. After assembly, the tubes are expanded into the fin collars. This allows for a gap-free connection maximizing heat exchanger performance and structural integrity.

Installation Considerations
The fluid circuit consists of several parallel tube circuits, which are joined at inlet and outlet headers. The circuits are designed to work “down hill” to prevent trapping. To ensure complete drainage, optional intermediate drain headers are available. Attached at the 180 deg. return bends, they provide positive water drainage and protection from freeze-up.

To prevent metal work-hardening and failure, it is important to isolate the exchanger from vibration. Pulsating flow produced by rotary lobe blowers must be dampened by a chambered silencer.

Performance
Xchanger engineers use a computer model to analyze heat exchanger performance based on the best available engineering practice.  A specifically designed program calculates housing material thickness based on the ASME code.
