Center-funded projects have included world premieres and commissions, exhibitions that travel the world, imaginative and experimental public history programming, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Numerous Center-funded works have enjoyed both critical praise and audience appeal, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art's 'Dancing Around the Bride'; Opera Philadelphia's 'Silent Night'; the Arden Theatre's 'Sunday in the Park with George'; the Mural Arts Program's 'Love Letters' murals along the Market Street El; and 'Emancipating Cliveden,' a project that transformed an historic site into a vibrant neighborhood center.
The Center also serves as a convener and thought leader for the cultural community, providing a hub for the exchange of ideas on artistic expression, cultural interpretation, and audience engagement. It organizes lectures and workshops, and publishes research to strengthen cultural organizations and enhance their work. The Center has produced such publications as What Makes a Great Exhibition? and Letting Go: Sharing Historical Authority in a User-Generated World.
