Ecolabel
The Ecolabel is an EU-sanctioned designation for products fulfilling a roster of strict requirements validated by AFNOR. Its objective is to 'promote the design, production, marketing, and use of products having a negligible effect on the environment throughout their life-cycle” and 'to better inform consumers of effects that products have on the environment, at the same time without compromising the safety of the product or of workers, or influencing to any significant degree the characteristics which render the product clean during use.”

The European Ecolabel may address itself to any category of product, excluding foodstuffs, beverages and pharmaceutical products.
The European Ecolabel rests on the principle of a 'global approach” which takes into consideration the life-cycle of the product, from manufacture, including choice of raw materials, through distribution and use, up to disposal after usage.
A global approach
Air quality, water quality, soil protection, reduction of waste, energy efficiency, management of natural resources.
Prevention of global warming, protection of the ozone layer, environmental safety, noise pollution and biodiversity.
