Our geothermal experts and project managers have extensive experience in managing geothermal power projects. Landsvirkjun Power is presently managing exploration and preparatory work for four geothermal power projects in North-East Iceland with a total capacity of 400 MW. Under the Icelandic Deep Drilling Project (IDDP), our staff is also managing the drilling of a 4.5 km deep exploratory and research well. IDDP is a long-term R&D project to harness steam at great depths under supercritical conditions. The hydrothermal fluid at such depth is expected at a temperature of 400–600 °C and 200-300 bar pressure. Our project managers have worked with numerous domestic and foreign engineering consultants, drilling companies, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers of electromechanical equipment. Landsvirkjun Power has, since it was founded, worked on geothermal projects outside of Iceland also in cooperation with foreign companies.
