Planning, Permits and Financing Services
From Project Development & EPC
Where a site is considered feasible for wind energy development, a programme of intensive engineering and environmental investigations is undertaken alongside a process of community engagement so that an application for planning permissions can be made.
These investigations usually involve the following...
These investigations usually involve the following activities:
- Options for site layout of turbines and access tracks are prepared, taking into account factors like energy yield, noise level, safety and shadow flicker evaluations. The site layout considerations include ground conditions necessary to form suitable foundations, the availability of on-site rock material to form access tracks and hardstandings, and a ground engineering design that optimizes the balance between cut and fill and minimizes the disturbance of peat and soils.
- Due to the nature and scale of wind energy developments, a process of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be required. This is a formal process by which the potential environmental effects of a project are systematically accessed and any likely significant environmental effects are identified so that they can be properly considered by the relevant authorities when an application for planning permission is made.
- The EIA studies usually commence with ornithological studies that can take up to 24 months to complete, involving surveys of bird nesting and flight activity, including more detailed studies where protected species are encountered. Other key studies are in relation to the effects on the landscape and visual amenity, ecology, the cultural and historic environment and on the water environment. Noise assessments are undertaken and models are used to predict the potential carbon savings that the project will accrue over the lifetime of the project. The EIA studies are reported in an Environmental Statement that is lodged with the application for planning permission.
- We prepare the entire application for planning permission which is determined by the corresponding authority.
- A forecast of potential earnings is also made during this phase. The amount of capital investment needed and the expected revenues of the wind farm over its lifetime are the key elements that are considered in the financing model. Through its experience ABO Wind can offer a range of international financing solutions, depending on the specific circumstances for each project, which can not only accelerate a project, but also enhance its value.
