In case of damage on or caused by wind turbines, we as an independent expert can clarify the nature of the damage and determine the root causes at any stage from component delivery to any time during the operating period. As DEWI is an independent company we can be commissioned to conduct investigations into the circumstances of the damage and to render a technical opinion.
Inspections at specific times at the workshop as soon as nacelles and blades have successfully passed the manufacturing quality control process, at the site just after the delivery of the components and at certain stages during assembly/construction of the wind turbine or wind farm.
Periodic inspections just after commissioning to establish a snag list before signing the approval certificate, before the end of the warranty period to ensure that warranty claims and contractual obligations of the manufacturer are fulfilled before expiration of the deadlines as well as inspections during the life of wind farms/turbines, recommended every 2 or 4 years.
Specific inspections are carried out on main components. Gearboxes and bearings are inspected by video endoscopy, and oil and/or grease analysis with diagnosis can be performed upon request. The condition of the drive train is assessed by a period of vibration measurements, followed by an accurate diagnosis report. Our generator inspection includes the high speed shaft coupling, the verification of the high speed shaft alignment, bearings (with grease analysis upon request), generator cooling system and insulation test of the generator (stator and rotor). Inspection of blades and/or blade lightning protection systems are done with rope access techniques or with a cherry picker.
